Keep it simple: your winter wellbeing starts now.
Welcome to my first newsletter.
Its purpose ? To support schools with the key aims of a school and to ensure we are focussing on the right things!
How often? Monthly
A request from me – tell me what is useful and what you would like in the next newsletter
Leadership Do your leaders know the school?
No time to carry out lesson observations and evaluate?
Start simple – I would not advocate that schools don’t quality assure the teaching and learning through lesson observations and learning walks.
However, if leaders at all levels make a point of regularly walking around classes and the school for 5 minutes this can provide you with a great deal of information.
Build trust have an open and honest conversation with all stakeholders during the 5 minute walks
Lyn Sharratt has promoted this work over several years. Here’s a short video of her philosophy

You can read more about this in her book Clarity What Matters Most in Learning Teaching and leading
Teaching and learning
The 5 questions Lyn Sharratt suggests when you are talking to pupils are :
What are you learning ? Why?
How are you doing?
How do you know?
How can you improve ?
Where do you go for help?
These questions could be used by teachers, leaders, teaching assistants and your governors.
Pupils’ responses will inform you as a practitioner or leader whether pupils understand the purpose of their learning experiences as opposed to just what they are doing?
Can pupils make connections with their learning experience with specific skills they are developing ?
This can then initiate purposeful discussions around planning and effective teaching and learning – in a constructive way – no judgements just build capacity!
