Why Silent Start?

The first 5 minutes determine the atmosphere for the whole lesson.

How to Implement

- Greet pupils at the door to check in on their wellbeing and ensure there is / board a task already on desks.

- Use a visible countdown (e.g. 3 minutes) for completion.

- Transition straight into review of that task.

Benefits

- Immediate engagement and connection.

- Calmer classroom tone.

- Smoother transition into new material.

Next Step

Plan tomorrow’s lesson starter as a one-page retrieval task for pupils to start in silence.
